“My wife and I are very taken with Maggie’s Centres and have greatly enjoyed supporting the charity in a number of ways. I’m looking forward to doing the MHFS 10k for Men on Father’s Day for Maggie’s and it will be a personal event for me, being a father of four and having lost my father to cancer.”

Maggie's Dundee Patron Christian Dailly announced today that he is signing up for the Men's Health Forum Scotland 10k for Men to raise money for the event's chosen charity, Maggie's Centres

Christian will complete the event in memory of his father, who died of bowel cancer.  This personal challenge will take on extra significance as the event falls on Father's Day - June 21st.

The Scottish international and Glasgow Rangers player visited Maggie's Glasgow today (Tuesday, April 7) to hear firsthand from centre users about the vital support that they receive from the facility.  Christian also met with Sarah McMillan, from Men’s Health Forum Scotland (MHFS), to hear about how the event is part of a wider campaign to help make men more aware of the importance of looking after their health.

Christian, who is a father of four, is encouraging men of all levels of fitness and all ages to sign up to the MHFS 10k for Men on Father’s Day to raise money for Maggie’s Centres across Scotland and to make a difference to their health.

Christian became involved in supporting Maggie’s Centres after his father died of bowel cancer at the age of 56, and he recognised the need for people diagnosed with cancer and their family to be able to access emotional and practical support.  Christian and his wife, Kirsty, are members of an active friends group who hold events to raise money for their local Maggie’s Centre in Dundee.  In fact they have raised in excess of £100,000 for Maggie’s so far and plan to continue with their fundraising deeds.

Christian Dailly said: “I know that cancer affects the whole family and not just the individual diagnosed and Maggie’s recognise that in the support they offer.  Maggie’s Centres are wonderful places where the support is tailored to each person’s needs and the environment inside is so positive and uplifting.  My wife and I are very taken with Maggie’s Centres and have greatly enjoyed supporting the charity in a number of ways.  I’m looking forward to doing the MHFS 10k for Men on Father’s Day for Maggie’s and it will be a personal event for me, being a father of four and having lost my father to cancer.  I hope many others will be inspired to join me for their own reasons and sign up to raise funds for Maggie’s.”

Maggie’s events Manager, Claire Noel, said: “Christian is a great Patron of Maggie’s Dundee, leading by example.  Maggie’s rely solely upon fundraising to run our centres and everyone who signs up for the MHFS 10k for Men for Maggie’s will personally be helping us to continue to run our centres and take our programme of support to more people than before. You don’t have to be super fit like Christian to join in, as participants can complete the event at their own pace, whether that be walking, jogging or running.  You too can help keep Maggie’s running by signing up for the MHFS 10k for Men today.”

Sarah McMillan, 10k for Men development worker said: “We are delighted that Christian Dailly has signed up to take part in this year’s MHFS 10k for Men. Christian is a great sportsman and I’m sure his participation will encourage men of all ages, sizes and abilities to take part in this great event. The MHFS 10k for Men is part of a wider campaign to help make men more aware of the importance of looking after their health. By building on the success of the past three annual events we believe that this year the 10K will be bigger and better, helped by the support of Christian and the others who have already registered to take part.”

The MHFS 10k for Men is the UK’s only men’s 10k.  Last year 3000 men between the ages of 15 and 80 signed up for the event with more expected to take on the challenge this year.
