Kirsty Wark hosts a spectacular ceilidh to raise funds for Maggie’s Glasgow and to mark the first ever Love Maggie’s Day
Maggie’s Patron and Scottish broadcaster, Kirsty Wark, hosted a charity bash at the stunning Trades Hall on Friday, raising a fabulous £31,000 for Maggie's Glasgow.

Around 160 people attended the event, including many prominent Scots from the worlds of business and arts. Billy Differ, BBC Radio Scotland’s Dress Circle Presenter and Charles McGhee, former editor of The Herald, were just a few of the well known faces in attendance. The Lord Provost of Glasgow, Bob Winter, generously sponsored the drink’s reception.
The evening included a glamorous drinks reception, a top class 3 course meal, entertainment from the Haud Yer Lugs Ceilidh band, a Silent Auction and many Raffle prizes. The ceilidh was generously sponsored by RBS.
The date of the ceilidh was chosen to coincide with the inaugural Love Maggie’s Day – a day to celebrate all that Maggie’s Centres have achieved and for fundraisers to do something they love or something in honour of someone they love to raise funds for the Centres.
Guests heard firsthand about the difference that Maggie’s makes to people affected by cancer, through speeches by Kirsty Wark and Dr Noelle O’Rouke, who is an Oncologist at the Beatson and who has cancer and is using Maggie’s Centre.
Kirsty Wark, who has been a Patron of Maggie’s for nearly a decade, said: "This is my fourth time hosting a fundraising dinner for Maggie’s Glasgow and it gets more enjoyable each year. Love Maggie’s Day is all about doing something you love so it made perfect sense for me to host the annual ceilidh on this date. As well as the ceilidh, I baked cakes for the Centre for the day, as baking is one of my favourite past times. We had an entertaining evening, with people digging deep to support Maggie’s Glasgow, with the great sum of money raised going a long way towards helping people across the west of Scotland to build a life beyond cancer.”
Top auction prizes included:
• Ortak - Limited edition 18ct gold and enamel jewellery set - Includes pendant, earrings and drop earrings designed exclusively for Maggie's. Valued at £2,500
• 2 night stay at Kasbah Tamadot, Sir Richard Branson's Moroccan retreat. The prize includes 2 nights accomodation for 2 people, daily breakfast. Valued at £650
• Emirates Flights to Dubai - 2 economy flights
• Archie Forrest print
Maggie’s Glasgow Acting Centre Head, Claire Marriott, said: “Our thanks goes to Kirsty Wark for her continued support and all those who attended and made the evening a massive success. The great sum of money raised will help Maggie’s Glasgow to continue to expand upon our vital and varied programme of support.”
Maggie’s Glasgow at the Western Infirmary, Dumbarton Road opened in 2002. People from Glasgow and beyond affected by cancer visit the centre for free-of-charge emotional and practical support. A second Maggie’s Centre for Glasgow will begin construction soon at Gartnavel Hospital to serve the west coast of Scotland’s cancer population.
