  • Scottie in the Rockies

    Summer 2011

Ian and his donation to Maggie's Fife

This summer H&S Advisor (Ian “Scottie” Scott) reached a significant birthday (he’s not telling … it’s a secret!).

He decided to try and climb Longs Peak in Colorado USA (14,259 ft of it!) in aid of Maggie’s Fife. Ian started his challenge but by the time he got to the final ascent section of Longs Peak he found it was closed to non-technical climbers due to snow and ice on the narrow ledges! Ian quickly had to come up with a plan B for his sponsors back home and set two new targets.

    1. Climb a total ascent equivalent to the height of Longs Peak and …
    2. Hike 100 miles during the 11 day stay.

Ian managed both targets and more, achieving 21,072 ft of ascent and exactly 100 miles of hiking and smashing his original £500 target by raising a staggering £1,030!! A huge thank you and massive well done from everyone at Maggie’s Fife. What a mammoth achievement!

Ian could not have completed this challenge without Hikemasters of the YMCA of the Rockies near Estes Park, Colorado and all the wonderful people who sponsored him. A heartfelt thank you from Maggie’s to everyone who supported Ian on this incredible challenge.
